By Joy Nzangi

We all have relationships in our lives.Either with friends, classmates, neighbors, parents and other people around us.Today am going to major my article on toxic relationships among campus students.

Many a times we see campus students in groups doing different things.Students get into relationships for different reasons. Some of which are:

  • ·         Peer pressure which comes from the urge to fit into a certain group of people

          ·         Financial reasons.
          ·         One may be lonely and desperate and therefore looking for somewhere they can find                           happiness
          ·         One can also get into a relationship for fame and popularity.Image result for peer pressure

This and others are some of the reasons why one would get into a relationship.Once someone gets into a relationship for the wrong reasons, the outcome is normally not so good.
Most toxic relationships are as a result of one getting into a relationship for the wrong reasons. We have examples of outcomes of such relationships.

Last month (January 2020) a student from Technical University of Mombasa went missing for three days.He was later found dumped in a River. Investigations say that this boy was killed by a group of students who had discovered that he was having an affair with one of their friend’s girlfriend.

A young life was lost for such a minor issue. This is one of the outcomes of a toxic relationship among campus students.

Last year at Moi University,a medicine student the late Ivy Wangeci was brutally killed by her boyfriend. This shows that they were in a relationship for the wrong reasons and it ended up in a lot of sorrow.Image result for ivy wangechi

This and many other incidents that have happened are a very good example of toxic relationships. Now,how can we avoid such relationships from us as campus students?

·         Let us be in relationships with positive outcomes,if a relationship you are in does not benefit you in any way, leave it.
·         Let us not use each other, don’t be close to someone for some benefits either money, fame, revenge, among others.
·         Let’s focus on building each other and being open in every relationship. This will prevent any bitterness that can cause any negative outcome in the future.
·         In case you have any doubts about a relationship you are having, seek advice from someone elderly.
·         Let us not do things out of peer pressure,to please our friends or to be seen as the best and become popular. Don’t take anyone’s kindness for your advantage.

If we do this we will maintain respect among each other and incidents like the ones happening will not be heard among us.Thank you.

Let us be kind of people who think twice and reason out before getting into any kind of relationship, just to keep ourselves away from such outcomes of unhealthy and poisonous kinds of love....

  4. Very true... It always a nice to make a right decisions.. Just choose a person whom you think you can build a strong relationship with rather than falling in love with people just because of peer pressure and thereafter end up being harassed, stressed out and even being killed. It's time for us to just think

  17. You've highlighted very good ways of how to avoid being trapped in a toxic relationship but the problem these campus students have is peer pressure and pride of being seen walking around the campus holding hands in the name of love
These people need serious assistance and I think more of these articles will help them a lot
